STRANGE LOOP (From WIKIPEDIA):
A strange loop arises when, by moving up or down through a hierarchical system, one finds oneself back where one started.

Strange loops may involve self-reference and paradox...
-----------------------
Hofstadter, who proposed and discusses the concept of strange loops is one of the premier thinkers when it comes to consciousness. His idea is that our notions of self and of a conscious mind are caused by a strange loop of self-reflection upon our mind and thoughts.

This blog is my (our) exploration of one brain with multiple consciousnesses. It is an attempt as wrapping one brain and several minds around a rationalist understanding of healthy multiplicity.

Our posts and thoughts are our own, the people we quote's are their own. We do not claim to speak for any movement.

I’m sorry (I think) I wanted to post something more tonight. But I keep browsing tags and I think it is making me angry because I’m having trouble breathing and my legs feel strange and twitchy. I x-ed out of all the tabs when the words stopped making sense together, but now…

You just completely pulled this out of your ass, didn’t you.

Nope. I actually posted more about the Narrative model for consciousness in the next post, but obviously, you just want to troll. Which is cool and all, but this was a rather poor attempt. The notion that “self” is just a story you tell yourself is something put forward by several philosophers, including Dan Dennett. Here, I’ll get a link for you. HERE IT IS. I already linked it in another post but that might be more work then you are willing to put in.

I actually have thought a lot about what “self” means. This blog is titled for a model of self. “I am a Strange Loop” is the theses on consciousness by Douglas Hofstadter. I don’t believe in souls or any kind of extra-material notions of self, and I am deeply interested in what makes up the self for obvious reasons and because philosophy and questions of choice and humanity fascinate me.

So no, bon-cross, I didn’t pull that out of my ass. It has an academic backing and years of thought behind it. Sorry if you didn’t find it compelling or if it disquieted you in some way that you felt the need to question it. But hey, I’m all for questioning! Yay for inquiry.
